Muscat City Centre
63Known as the largest mall in Oman, the Muscat City Centre officially opened way back in October 2001. While it remains the largest and most popular lifestyle and fashion mall in the country, it continues to expand as it recently expanded under a project worth 22.5 million RO. After 16-months of expansion, the undertaking turned the mall’s GLA from a 33,036 sq. meters to a much spacious 60,484 sq. meters. That’s almost an increase by double of the overall area and size of the mall.
Thanks to the expansion, it now holds 63 brand new stores ever since the year 2007. Making a total of 147 retail stores in the mall, you’ll never run out of shopping options with all. This is where you’ll find Oman’s most popular locally produced goods, such as silver jewelry, perfumes, and hand woven handicrafts. Not only that, more brands are joining the chain of stores, including Centrepoint, Zara, Borders Bookstore, E-Max, and Home Centre. It is also home to the famous Carrefour hypermarket as well as Magic Planet, along with 22 food restaurants and cafes and a grand international food court.
Most tourists who plan to go shopping in Oman always do most of their shopping in the Muscat City Centre. That’s because this is where you will find a plethora of lifestyle and fashion products like no other, conveniently accessible in the same building.
The architecture of the Muscat City Centre mall is an attraction in itself. It’s a unique blend of modern and contemporary infrastructure co-existing with surroundings that reflect Oman’s well preserved culture and heritage. With so much progress going on with the largest mall in Oman, it’s impossible for you to find a better place to shop in the country.
You can get to the Muscat City Centre either by car or by taxi. The mall is located along Qaboos Road. If you want to go there the moment you arrive in Oman, then it’s approximately 3kms from the airport. It’s also easy to get around and about thanks to the multi-level parking lot, a “first of its kind” flyover. If you happen to be booked at the right hotel, you can also get to the mall easily through the various shuttle buses for hotel guests. Just ask for the bus schedules so you can join the regular trips.
If it’s your first time going there, you can find shopping guides about the mall almost anywhere, online or otherwise. You can find most of the information you need on the mall’s website, where you can access a user-friendly directory and restaurant guide. You can even sign up for its online newsletter.
The Muscat City Centre is open from 10 AM to 10 PM from Saturdays to Thursdays and 2 PM to 10 PM on Fridays. The Carrefour and Magic Planet, on the other hand, opens as early as 9 AM and closes as late as 12 midnight on all those days. So there’s absolutely no reason why you won’t be able to drop be the mall when you’re on vacation in Muscat.
